Anna Gare's Cab Fare

I meant to write this up during the week, but did not get around to it. Anna Gare’s Cab Fare premiered last Saturday afternoon on Channel 9 at 12.30pm. Anna Gare, best known from The Best in Australia and Junior MasterChef Australia, talks to 13cabs’ (not surprisingly they developed the show with Anna) taxi drivers and collects recipes from them and cooks them on the show. This is an odd little show, apart from being a show co-developed by a taxi service, the cynical side of me wondered if those recipes are really theirs, or actually from some other family members, and can they themselves actually cook? LOL. They never showed the taxi driver who gave out the recipe actually cooked the dish on the show, it was Anna who cooked the dish, plus a couple of her own accompanying side dishes, and then brought them to the home of the taxi driver for critiquing, arriving in another cab, of course, driven by some other driver who couldn’t cook, I suspect.
However, given that there are different cultural dishes being featured, I think there are 10 episodes, there are still little tricks and tips we may learn from them, so it is still a lazy half hour diversion for the weekend.

  1. recipe of cab drivers means what cab drivers eat at home, the show is not about can cab drivers cook, for example the cab driver, his wife ,his children, his neighbors&friends of same ethnic background are all eating same traditional dish,so all same recipe.but uf she gets right cooking it,she is beauty, that is toughest part and we would never know because its tv screen most cab driver families will say anna you did perfect job out if respect

  2. Hi there, I’m the director and creator of the show (with Anna of course) and I can tell you that almost all of the recipes came from the drivers and their families. A few were developed by Anna to accompany the dishes the drivers had. It was such a pleasure to cook the cabbies recipes and be invited into their homes. The food and hospitality was just amazing and everyone involved really enjoyed themselves. I hope you enjoyed the show as all involved worked long and hard to get this on air. It took us more than 3 years from inception to on-air so we’re very very proud of it, even though it’s just a little cooking show. If you want a cookbook with all the recipes in it you can enter ‘Anna’ in the promo section when you download the 13cabs app. Best Tim
