Heston’s Feasts & Big Chef Takes on Little Chef

Woohoo, fans of English mad scientist Chef Heston Blumenthal take note. Next week two of his TV shows begin airing on SBS ONE and ABC1 respectively.

Series 2 of Heston’s Feasts starts on SBS ONE on Thursday August 19 at 8:30pm (taking on the timeslot of another fantastic food programme which ends tonight, The Supersizers Go…) with the first episode of Willie Wonka feast based on Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Other feasts to come will include fairytales, gothic and Titanic. Those of you who had watched his first series last year, also on SBS ONE, would know it was an incredible TV show. The episode from series one that I loved most was the one where he created a feast of edible cutlery, candles, and napkins – that was just too delicious to watch!
But wait, before that goes to air, on Tuesday August 17, 2010, at 6:00pm Big Chef Takes on Little Chef premieres on ABC1. This one is in the style of Gordon Ramsay-saves-a-restaurant show but probably more civilised. Can’t wait!

Update August 17, 2010: Big Chef Takes on Little Chef was not broadcast tonight due to coverage of Policy Launch for the Election this weekend and it is held over for next week .

  1. Hi Sea dragon!
I didn’t know where to comment on this and I wasn’t sure whether you checked your Cafe of the East blog anymore but I had to say that I made your coffee mousse swiss roll last Sunday and it was sooooo goood!
The sponge was so light and complemented really well with the coffee cream! The sponge also remained basically in the same condition for 4 days and I finished it off today!
    Thanks a lot again!
BTW, I just finished watching Heston’s feasts on DVD and I think he’s a culinary genius! I can’t wait for the second season!

  2. Oh wait, Sea dragon, I got carried away and forgot to ask my question =|
During baking, the sponge rose into a puffy elongated dome and I thought it would give me a thick roll like in your photo but when I took it out of the oven (immediately after I confirmed it was cooked),it shrank and I ended up with quite a thin sponge. Do you know why this is so or how to prevent it from happening next time?
    Thank you!

    • That sounds like beating of the egg white. If not beaten enough, it won’t rise as much, but if beaten too stiff, it will rise too much and cause breakage while rolling. So it is all down to practice and experience to know next time how much to beat. HTH.
