Poh’s Kitchen (2010)

Just watched the first episode of Poh’s Kitchen which premiered last night on ABC1, must say it looked really good! I like the structure of the show, the way she interacts with a professional chef in the kitchen, asking questions a normal homecook would ask. It is also fantastic to have so many tips and hints given. Although only two recipes were done, they were quite detailed in explaining the correct way to do them. For example always stir the chocolate with a spatula, never use a whisk as that creates bubbles which is undesirable.
And so happy to see the first episode featuring two of my favourites, chiffon cake and almond croissants! And I never knew almond croissants are supposed to be flattened! Can’t wait for the next episode!
The website is also very well organised, Poh is even writing her own blog there. I have added the link in the sidebar.
There’s also an article about Poh in today’s newspaper in Melbourne, The Age, which makes for an interesting read.

Update February 15, 2010: Winner of MasterChef Australia series one, Julie Goodwin, joins TODAY on 9 starting Tuesday February 16 (cooking pancakes for Shrove Tuesday) as their resident cook, watch for her cooking segments every Tuesday morning at about 8:40am.

Update August 15, 2010: Poh’s Kitchen will soon be seen in Central and South East Asia, following a recent sale of the cooking programme to Discovery Asia. It will be screened on the TLC channel in territories including Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and The Philippines. Series 1 of the cooking programme has a total of 40 episodes which are currently on air here in Australia and Series 2 is expected in 2011.

  5. Good morning – last night here in NZ I watched episode 33 of Poh’s Kitchen (love it) and on it Jacko Angeles had made a lime and coconut cake(slice) but no matter how long I look cannot find it anywhere. Is it possible to get the recipe for this delicious looking cake.

    Comment by Lorraine — May 6, 2011 @ 7:55 am | Reply

    • A lot of viewers were searching for that recipe too, but unfortunately Jacko has decided not to share the recipe after the episode aired. There is a thread in the forum on Poh’s Kitchen website where they announced it after viewers were asking for the recipe. However I think it is just like a Lemon Coconut Slice but using lime curd instead of lemon curd.
