What happened to janella purcell I really liked her
Comment by Nicole — January 15, 2013 @ 5:40 pm |
Probably needs a rest after doing 4 series of the show, LOL… There are just so many recipes you can show, after that it is more and more tweaking of the same recipes… Gary left after 2 series, so she has done twice as many as Gary…
Comment by SeaDragon — January 15, 2013 @ 7:21 pm |
She was bullied. People (or atleast one woman in particular) sent her hate emails, it made her draw a line in the sand and quit. Sad. I love janella. The show is a but awkward now I think.
Comment by Kristy Crain — April 13, 2013 @ 8:14 am |
Hi guys, wondering what happened to Janella loved her style, I Lso like Zoe style two very different . Great recipes keep up the good work.
Comment by Pam Baars — January 16, 2013 @ 2:46 pm |
glad to see Janella has gone i couldnt stand her i thought she was a complete pain
Comment by John Ellison — January 17, 2013 @ 2:48 pm |
Quirky, funny, informative, a real personality that complimented Adrians dry sense of humour….yeah mate, she was terrible!
Comment by Brandon — January 20, 2013 @ 8:38 am |
She didnt like you either and no one else does probably. She was great I thought
Comment by Aussie Ron — January 21, 2013 @ 3:55 pm |
Well said
Comment by Greg — February 5, 2013 @ 11:59 am |
Please come back Janella both my wife and I really enjoyed you in the show with Adrian, you two made the show!
Comment by Brian Teasel and Vicky Teasel — January 18, 2013 @ 7:50 am |
I miss Janella, the chemistry just isn’t the same. Zoe is really awkward.
Comment by Connie — January 18, 2013 @ 8:47 am |
I have to agree, but they needed to please their sponsors, sadly.
Comment by Aussie Ron — January 21, 2013 @ 3:57 pm |
I miss Janella as well but I also like Zoe she just needs to find her spot it will come, it must be difficult, taking over from someone like Janella, give her a chance.
Comment by Pam Baars — January 18, 2013 @ 12:40 pm |
Zoe – great choice – natural, works well with Adrian. I’ve started watching again without cringeing.
Comment by Lyn T — January 18, 2013 @ 2:59 pm |
Can someone tell me where is Janella. Why has she been replaced in the show by Zoe? Whats going on?
Comment by elizabeth irvine — January 18, 2013 @ 3:07 pm |
I was wondering exactly the same thing, elizabeth and I also agree with Connie (Q.5) that the chemistry is just not the same.
Comment by Debbie — January 18, 2013 @ 5:53 pm |
The show is not worth watching without Janella, Adrain and Janella were perfect together!
Comment by trish — January 19, 2013 @ 2:34 am |
God your a hard lot to please its early days.Wheres that so called Aussie spirit of giving someone a fair go,obviously Janellas busy schedule she needed time for her other interests I suspect.
Comment by Pam Baars — January 19, 2013 @ 5:12 pm |
I still watch the show, Richo is great. Zoe is fine sorta, she does seem to be a yes person & not challenge Richo like Janella did. I would like to see Janella start her own series like “Real Good Chef”or something of a similar nature.
Comment by Aussie Ron — January 21, 2013 @ 4:02 pm |
I also miss Janella, Zoe is ok but Janella was better
Comment by michdero@gmail.com — January 22, 2013 @ 3:09 pm |
Time for a change in chefs what a great idea. Janella got her message across but she was a unusual…..sometimes nice then change in the blink of an eye and be narky. Too difficult to watch so I stopped, might start again with Zoe.
Comment by Bec — January 22, 2013 @ 3:05 pm |
Yeh I’m with you Bec enough with all that do good food man I’m with Richo and some real food all them seeds you could grow bloody feathers ! Zoe will fit in he’ll knock her into shape I think Richo’s a scream.
Kitchen bitch Wal.
Comment by Wallyg — March 28, 2013 @ 8:19 pm |
give Zoe a chance she has only done 10 shows, i have watched zoe on other shows doing cooking, what were you like when you started a new job
Tezza
Comment by terry calderwood — January 24, 2013 @ 8:05 am |
still waiting to hear what happened to Janella. Much more personable than Zoe. I don’t care how many shows Zoe has ‘only’ donel; she behaves as though she is much more superior than Adrian. Janella had a much greater sense of humour
Comment by Robyn Dann — January 24, 2013 @ 7:09 pm |
Robyn – you have to be kidding. Janella was the quintessential smart-arse – but wait – is that what you need to be to succeed on tele?
Comment by Lyn T — January 24, 2013 @ 8:12 pm |
Seems like it is a competition of who can upstage who and the winner gets the show lol!
Comment by Bec — January 24, 2013 @ 8:26 pm |
Janella was not a smart arse, she was great, she challenged Adrian’s love of over indulgence, get your facts right
Comment by Zane — February 3, 2013 @ 10:26 pm |
Your hard to please people, at the moment we have the best of both worlds, Janella in the morning and Zoe in the afternoon. So people stop complaining don’t like Zoe don’t watch. Just watch the morning repeat.
Comment by Pam Baars — January 25, 2013 @ 6:49 am |
I do miss Janella but all good things must come to an end, lets give Zoe a chance. I tape both shows so I get the best of both worlds. Janella and Adrian had been together a long time and of course Zoe’s sense of humour is very different to Janella’s but am sure that she will settle in well.
Comment by Margaret Brooke — January 25, 2013 @ 7:59 am |
I really like this Zoe girl. I find her believeable as “good chef”. She looks fit and healthy. It was a little hard to be taking healthy cooking advice from Janella when she looked like she’d indulged in one too many of Adrian’s recipies.
Comment by Sarah — January 25, 2013 @ 10:34 am |
Please read this blog post written by Janella earlier this year. Maybe that’s why she decided to take a break from doing the show.
Comment by SeaDragon — January 25, 2013 @ 12:05 pm |
Yes I read that and most likely very valid but TV viewers aren’t interested in that, they are only interested in what they see. If TV people want viewers to be more understanding then TV is not the correct forum. It is a knack to be liked and some have it or they have great publicists! By the way, it beats me how those chefs stay slim with all that fat they use and not to mention salt.
Comment by Bec — January 25, 2013 @ 12:55 pm |
Thanks for posting the blog link. The people posting hateful comments about Janella’s weight need a reminder that she’s more than just an image on the screen. There are a myriad of factors that affect and shape an individual’s life. Making narrow minded judgements and derisive comments about other people is truly a sad reflection of themself.
Comment by Louise So — March 27, 2013 @ 4:08 pm |
What a horrible statement, your saying Janella was unfit, that is the most ridiculous statement I have heard, there was absolutely nothing wrong with Janella she was healthy. So Sarah should we all be like a stick, and then we are considered healthy, well shame on you. Leave Janella alone.
Comment by Pam Baars — January 29, 2013 @ 6:08 pm |
Before you make such rash statements about Janella, maybe you should do some research. I feel sorry for narrow, small minded people like you. Janella is a good person & is not perfect. I guess you think you are though. Sad little person.
Comment by Aussie Ron — February 2, 2013 @ 9:25 am |
instead of calling people names, like sad little person, why not actually read what was written. it was said that she looked as though she had overindulged…..NOT that she had. i personally was not concerned about how she looked, but her insistence on putting down everything that was said by her joint chef……she would not be flexible in the least and was always critical of what he would serve. Zoe on the other hand is more flexible and easier to listen to, she acknowledges that although she is not fond of all he cooks, everyone likes variety!!!! so stop the name calling and remember that no one is perfect………..
Comment by Shivvy — February 2, 2013 @ 12:07 pm |
Like I said, do some research as to why Janella “Looked like she indulged in too many of Adrians recipes”, not overindulged OMG another expert!
Comment by Aussie Ron — February 2, 2013 @ 12:39 pm |
i get the distinct impression that you have a huge chip on your shoulder…..OMG another expert…well you know what they say about experts…an ex is a hasbeen and a spurt is a drip under pressure…..perhaps you should look in the mirror……
Comment by Shivvy — February 2, 2013 @ 1:06 pm |
Oh dear, nothing original? I guess I was correct then, thanks for endorsing that!
Comment by Aussie Ron — February 2, 2013 @ 4:09 pm |
I couldn’t agree more all them seed didn’t seem to work may as well eat som decent tucker.
Comment by Wallyg — March 28, 2013 @ 8:26 pm |
can someone please point out to the chefs that you cannot reduce something up……so it is unnecessary, not to mention annoying to hear them say they are going to reduce something down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! other than that it is a great show, at least Zoe doesn’t constantly put Adrian down and they seem to work well together whilst still holding their own points of view re: healthy food or not!!!
Comment by Shivvy — January 28, 2013 @ 3:15 pm |
Why has Janella gone? It was such a successful show as it was. No need to change anything! Janella will be missed by many. Brought so much to the show. I wish Janella all the best for the future.
Comment by Joanne — January 28, 2013 @ 5:26 pm |
Why has Janella left the show???
Comment by Margaret Brooke — January 28, 2013 @ 10:09 pm |
Janella was my inspiration when I was recovering from major treatment for ovarian cancer.
My pantry and my cooking are now ” Janella “style.
It is now two years since this life changing challenge/nightmare happened to me.
I miss you Janella and hope to see you on my screen again.
Comment by Susan Tindal — January 28, 2013 @ 6:44 pm |
I’m now finding it a very entertaining show to watch, without the uncomfortable barbs, and Zoe is a change for the better. Move on – Janella’s reason for leaving was hopefully her own and therefore her own business.
Comment by Lyn T — January 29, 2013 @ 8:10 am |
Well said!
Comment by Shivvy — January 29, 2013 @ 7:33 pm |
can anyone give me the recipe for the dip that aired on tv today with Janelle. It had pumpkin, chickpeas & tahini with crisp mountain bread. I can’t find it on the website.

For Janella’s recipes, please look under Good Chef Bad Chef 3, or Good Chef Bad Chef 4 in this blog for her recipes. I think what you are after is Pumpkin Humus from Good Chef Bad Chef 3.

Calm down, everyone! No personal attacks on my blog please. If you want to criticize the show, you are welcome to, but keep them nice please. Thanks.

Very interesting why the show is so divisive. There was a US version of GCBC and it was styled more like Zoe/Richo. Janella seems to bring out strong emotions in people. Seems to bring out combativeness and Aussies like like that type of format. Seriously though people you should not get all upset about Janella and her reasons for not/being on the show it is her business and we will never know the reason why.

What happened to Janella? She was great with Adrian. The show is boring without her.

so glad janella is gone!

TV shows are for personalities and Janella really knew her stuff, what was good for you and why. She probably had her life to get on with but people usually stay when appreciated, what happened channel 10?
Adrian is lovely but I don’t watch the show anymore since Janella left. I think Adrian may have stood a better chance on his own with a program name change.

I love zoe and Adrian, they are very complementary. I love how Zoe enjoys eating Adrians cooking and isn’t scared to eat some meat
Comment by Maree — February 15, 2013 @ 8:33 pm |
Dislike both Janella and the new Zoe. It should just be called “Good Chef” and be hosted by Richo only. Janella was patronising with her constant comments about Richo’s food being “Bad” and the new co-host Zoe acts like she’s so great because she eats healthy. This show is lame.
Comment by Sheridan — February 16, 2013 @ 9:50 am |
I don’t care who the female host sharing is, I LOVE Richo, great fun to watch, and I don’t cook!
Comment by capples — February 16, 2013 @ 11:24 am |
loved the show with Janella and Adrian, very boring now. Sad that all things have an expiry date. Will continue to enjoy the repeats.
Comment by Maree — February 16, 2013 @ 4:35 pm |
Janella always seemed really condescending and snippy- most people I know would often comment about her attitude so it really interesting to read some people actually liked her. I assumed they must have sacked her because they got loads of complaints about her passive aggressive style
Comment by Jodie — February 18, 2013 @ 3:05 pm |
I enjoyed Janella despite her superior demeanour. She and Richo had serious chemistry, such dynanism providing a show greater than it’s parts. Zoe is flat as a tack, so all we are now getting is just another show with two chefs cooking two styles – whoopy-do! I will continue to watch in case a familiarity between the chefs grows to the point where I no longer feel ill at ease by Zoe’s awkward, lacklustre approach. Richo is effervescent regardless. What a passionate sweetheart. And that’s what is now missing – Janella’s fervent passion. The show should now be called Great Personality, Flat personality !
Comment by littlemurders — February 19, 2013 @ 4:05 pm |
Janella was definitely her own person & she offered variety to the show that was great. I liked her very much & believe the show was great with her & Richo as a team. Unfortunately the all mighty dollar came into it & she was not satisfying the sponsors requests. Its a shame, but I guess thats reality, sadly.
Im sure Zoe is a nice person & I still like watching GCBC, but it just not as good as it was in my opinion. It is hard to please all the people all the time, actually impossible I think.Lets all support Zoe in this show & Janella with what she is doing & be happy. Cheers.

I liked Janella’s style on the show, and I miss her. Yes, she could be cheeky and scolding, but I always found that it was done in a cheerful and non-condescending manner. The interaction between the two chefs was great fun to watch, never disrespectful and always with a good amount of humor. I learned a lot from both. I will definitely keep up with Janella via her website.

THEN BACK TO TOUCHING THE FOOD AND TOUCHING YOUR HAIR???? URGGGGG ! US TBLSPOON AND TEASPOON PLEASE. THIS IS A PUBLIC SEGMENT MANY ARE WATCHING BUT I CANNOT TAKE IT WATCHING YOU LICKING YOUR FINGERS AND TOUCHING THE FOOD BACK. JANELLA WATCH OUT TOO !
THANK YOU
Comment by gage — February 21, 2013 @ 11:00 am |
for cooking segments – PLEASE MAKE A CODE TO MAKE THE CHEFS LOOK TIDY ESPECIALLY ABOUT THEIR HAIR HANGING DOWN ON THEIR FACES, A TINY HAIR WILL GO TO THE FOOD THAT WE ALWAYS SHOULD BE AWARE OF. WEAR A HEAD BAND – MANY CHEAP BANDS OUTSIDE. . . AND NO LICKING OF FINGERS PLEASE !

i love watching the show – i have some comments: ADRIAN do you mind tidying up your hair and stop licking your fingers in tasting the food? Use a tblspoon or teaspoon to be more hygienic. this is a public segment if is disgusting to watch – licking, and touching back on to the food, and scratch your hair. hmmm. for cooking segments – PLEASE MAKE A CODE TO MAKE THE CHEFS LOOK TIDY ESPECIALLY ABOUT THEIR HAIR HANGING DOWN ON THEIR FACES, A TINY HAIR WILL GO TO THE FOOD THAT WE ALWAYS SHOULD BE AWARE OF. No TV Chef wears a hat or has tidy hair….they all look unkempt and sloppy to me. So glad not eating their food! Maybe they should start a show called Clean Chef Dirty Chef LOL

I miss Janella. I enjoy watching Adrian and Zoe, but I am sadly a creature of habit and wish it was Adrian and Janella. I have read Janella’s blog and I think it is sad that so many have commented on her weight. I know of many vegetarians/vegans/healthy eaters who are not a ‘perfect size 10′ but they are healthier and fitter than anyone I know. I believe many of the negative comments are from people who have very limited empathy and perhaps these people haven’t had the opportunity to have a friendship where it is ok to disagree. I hope Janella finds the happiness she is after and I cannot wait to buy her cook books and perhaps see her again (maybe on her own cooking show)

What a breath of fresh air is Zoe and her recipes are great. Had to stop watching the show while the insufferable Janella spent her time on camera curling her lip, rolling her eyes and generally being obnoxious. Now I am watching again.

Hi, I made a salted caramel sauce recipe last year with my friend and I’m sure we saw Adrian make it on Good Chef Bad Chef but I can’t find the recipe anywhere. Does anyone else remember this recipe or what episode it was on? I’ve made other sauces from other recipes but this one was the best I’ve ever tasted.
Comment by Jo Davies — February 25, 2013 @ 7:56 pm |
I did a search and could only find a butterscotch sauce from Ep26 GCBC4, but it’s not salted. Could the recipe be from Everyday Gourmet?
Comment by SeaDragon — February 25, 2013 @ 8:37 pm |
I enjoy the show more with Zoe, she doesn’t critisize as much as Janella did, at least whe will try Adrians food
its a very good show.

I think Zoe had a good balance to healthy eating and Adrian was a shocker to adding to much of the naughty stuff …Is`nt that why they called the show Good Chef Bad Chef !! Come back Zoe !!

I am enjoying zoe. Her skin looks so healthy(good ad for her ingredients) and whilst she does tend to stand back more, I am now getting used to her quieter style

Hi guys, I work and so only catch your re-runs on weekends when home. However this Easter Monday I made a cup of herbal tea and sat down with pen and paper on my knee. Imagine my surprise when I see Zoe – there’s no Janelle. Zoe is okay and Adrian is fabulous but now the show should be called Bad Chef, Bad Chef! Will Janelle come back? Carole
Comment by Carole — April 1, 2013 @ 5:50 pm |
Janelle came across as MOODY and at times very cutting. ZOE is a breath of fresh air – that is my opinion but we are all entitled to have opinions. I feel Adrian is a lot happier with the lovely Zoe. Linda
Comment by Linda — April 3, 2013 @ 3:40 pm |
I agree, I feel that Janelle was always putting Adrian down, his food is certainly ‘sometimes’ food, but it always looks good and at least Zoe will try it.
Comment by Carol — April 4, 2013 @ 11:32 am |
Why all the repeats? Is the series being axed?
Comment by Jen — April 16, 2013 @ 4:16 pm |
It is because they only make about 65 episodes per year, I am sure it will be back next year for Series 6.

I’m Janella nephew Janella was kicked because she wouldn’t use meat
Comment by Oska purcell — May 12, 2013 @ 10:37 pm |
My auntie (Janella purcell said she as kicked off because she wouldn’t use meat and the sponsors of the show are meat company’s so they had to kick her off
Comment by Oska purcell — May 12, 2013 @ 10:40 pm |
That’s very sad to hear because she brought a different perspective to all the other cooking programmes which are samo samo…
Comment by SeaDragon — May 13, 2013 @ 7:59 am |
Well that is strange because I never noticed whether she cooked with meat or not. Does Zoe cook meat? See I cant remember if she does or not so can’t be that important to viewers.
Comment by Bec — May 13, 2013 @ 9:55 am |
The fact that she didn’t cook with meat was the whole concept of the name of the show, ie Good Chef Bad Chef, so really the sponsors of the show got it very wrong when they got rid of Janella. In saying that I don’t mean that meat is bad, its just that she was giving an alternative for people. It really is their loss & ours, her going.
Comment by Aussie Ron — May 13, 2013 @ 10:05 am |
What a shame if that’s the truth on how Janella was kicked of the show because she wouldn’t use meat that’s a disgrace because Adrian was so far over the top with his meat recipes,Janella complimented him. They should of gotten rid of Adrian he had a show in which he uses meat didn’t last long as I recall. We need a show for only Janella and Zoe recipes I would love that.

I love Janella & will always respect what she does. She gives me so many great ideas ti live & eat healthier.
