Update May 12, 2012: Gee whiz! The power that be on the official website decided to change all the links to their recipes this year, so all links below are useless now! They are idiots really and did not even bother to add a re-direction for the old links… Don’t they want outside links to their website? I know I get a lot of traffic here from oversea viewers who do not want to go directly to the official website to search in case they stumble across the winner as they are just watching the series now or recently, so all my effort of providing links based on episode to their website are now all down the drain! If you can be bothered, you can copy the shortcut for a particular recipe link and paste it to the address bar, but you need to change the link, adding the word recipes/ as follows, for example:
old link – http://www.masterchef.com.au/harrys-seafood-paella.htm
change to – http://www.masterchef.com.au/recipes/harrys-seafood-paella.htm

Spoilers Alert: don’t click into this post if you have recorded the show but not watched it yet!

Angry Bird Cookies.

Don’t you just love these Angry Bird Cookies, how cute are they? OK, in case you are still confused, I did not make them, in fact they are on the cover of a new cookbook called “Cartoon Cookies” from the My Secret Recipes Series of Y3K Cookbooks published in Malaysia. They are now on my ever increasing to-bake list… but as usual with most of Asian cookbooks, the recipe is not very clear, it doesn’t tell us how big each cookie is or how many cookies can be made from the quantities given! Guess we will just have to use a lot of common sense with a dash of guesstimation to accomplish the task of making them…
Anyway, I thought it is just the right photo, I’m sure all kids will love them, to accompany this post as the second series of Junior MasterChef Australia gets ready to premiere tonight on Channel 10. After the debacle that was the third season of MasterChef Australia earlier this year, let’s just keep all our fingers crossed that this second junior series will be as good as last year.

It is very infuriating when a praised recipe featured in the show is not being released to the viewers who want to try out the recipe! In the case of this episode, Miraede’s Chocolate Pudding was supposed to be the stand-out dish, but as usual MasterChef in their wisdom has decided not to release the recipe (no wonder the ratings is nosediving so fast for this season!). Well, we don’t need to depend on MasterChef anymore, here’s a Chocolate Self-Saucing Pudding that is highly rated! If you want another similar but eggless version, try this one from AWW.

  4. why did you think that season three of masterchef australia was a “debacle”? i thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Comment by phil — July 1, 2012 @ 9:38 am | Reply

    • Well, where do I start? Fisrt off the contestants, a lot of them went into the competition in the hope of starting a food blog, or food writing, for a show called MasterChef, seriously? Only two as far as I remembered wanted to work in restaurant.
Then there were the immunity challenges, which were so inconsistent ranging from cooking against chefs to apprentices to a swimmer, and it seemed as the weeks went on the easier the immunity challenges, with so many pins given out left, right and centre in the later parts of the competition it was ridiculous.
The earlier few weeks where we did not get to see a lot of the contestants as if they were not there at all, and only showing the top 3 and bottom three dishes. If they want to put 24 contestants in the competition at least show us what all of them cooked, not a chosen few! Say i want to follow the progress of a particular contestant, I really could not as they were not shown at all.
And the Dalai Lama, what were the producers thinking asking him to be on the show? He was not judging, so what was the point of him being there at all! He even admitted recently that was a mistake on his part as well appearing on the show. That’s why the whole season was a debacle in my opinion.

  6. i love the show; great site. Do you know if it will be a third season of junior masterchef australia? thanks in advance

    Comment by Fideuá — July 13, 2012 @ 1:19 am | Reply

    • It is very unlikely there will be a season 3 of Junior MasterChef Australia. The ratings for series 2 was not very good and they are making MasterChef All-Stars this year instead of Junior MasterChef Australia.

      Comment by SeaDragon — July 13, 2012 @ 8:36 am | Reply

      • What a pity… I really enjoyed watching those kids cooking amazing food. Thanks for the information anyway. Regards from Spain, SeaDragon!
